Rock Bottom Brewery
Bethesda, MD
Sat. 1/24/98, 5:40pm
[still open]

House Brews:
Towline Light Ale
Rock Creek Pale Ale
Raccoon Red Red
Brown Bear Brown Ale (B)
Stillwater Stout (J)
Seasonal: Barleywine (9.8% ABV)

Rustic decor in pleasant looking restaurant.

Brown Ale: Large head. Clear garnet color. Aroma is muted. Would even say "watery". Lighter body than many brown ales. Very malty. Hops barely discernable. When hops are often the finish to a brown ale the aroma, flavor and finish to this one is malt. A very faint "tingle" well after most finishes have finished. I never thought I'd say this, but add a few more hops and you'd have a hell of a beer! 7.9

Stillwater Stout: It has a quite hoppy aroma. Classic dark stout taste. It has a nice feel when you first put in in the mouth. Taste is not consistent. Some swallows, there is no finish. Other swallows, there is a noticeable hop taste on the tongue. There's not a bad oatmeal taste. Not a bad beer, but inconsistent. 7.6
