Archives: District Chophouse 1/1/98

District Chophouse
Washington DC
Thurs. 1/1/98, 1pm
[still open]

House Brews:
Sawbuck Wheat
Monumental Pilsner
Greenback Gold
Old Mule Brown (B)
Bull Elephant Stout (J)
Bourbon County Stout
Seasonal: Christmas Ale

Semi art-deco decor. Reminiscent of Copeland's. Interesting menu - I had buffalo prime rib!

Old Mule Brown: Faint head. Malty aroma. Lovely deep garnet color. Very nicely balanced with malt and hops combining in mouth. Hops predominate the finish but not obnoxiously so. Body ever so slightly watery. As a cook I would say to thicken it just a little by cooking it longer. Not sure this works for beer. Light body not that distracting to the enjoyment of this beer. 8.6

Bull Elephant Stout: A nice aroma. Not much of a head. A nicely balanced beer. The taste is consistent throughout. Hops are noticeable but not strong. What this beer needs to make it an excellent beer is a more subtle taste. The taste is just basic beer - a hint of chocolate, caramel or something else would make this very enjoyable. 8.0
