Archives: Ram's Head Tavern 4/5/98

Ram's Head Tavern
Fordham Brewing
Annapolis, MD
Sun 4/5/98, 1pm
[closed as a standalone brewpub: Fordham Brewing purchased by Coastal Brewing in Delaware and the beers are still being served at this tavern and other places]

House Brews:
Vienna lager (seasonal)
Dusky Shark (seasonal - black lager) (J)
Altbier
Helleslager (B)
Victor E. Light
Blue Point Oyster Stout

Helles Lager: Light, almost weak, golden color. Thin head. Aroma is initially quite yeasty with faint malt undertones. No hop aroma. Body is thin. Most of the flavor is in the finish, which is where the hops come out. The flavor at finish is a good one - too bad there is next to no flavor in the rest of the tasting experience. 7.9

Dusty Shark: No head. Very malty aroma. The initial taste is malty, but not unpleasant. The hops show up in the finish. The body is better than the lager, but is still on the thin side. There's nothing majorly wrong with this beer, but there's nothing special about it either. Both beers are rather heavily carbonated. 7.8

Food was pretty good!
